“Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.”
Jack Kerouac, On the Road
A road tripper from an early age, I blame Kerouac, my thumbs have twice got me around South Africa, to Namibia and Zimbabwe and when I got my first car I liked nothing better than getting behind the wheel and exploring. Cursed, or blessed, with an insatiable curiosity I always want to know what is behind that corner, off that road, overlooked and maybe just forgotten by the standard travel plans.
Culminating in me winning the AbsoluteRoute 66 road trip competition in 2011, I knew I had a vocation, not just to get on the road, but to connect with others on the road, with others who loved the road. Being an early advocate of Social Media, combining the serendipity of the road with the collaboration of an engaged community seemed a natural fit. So from the experiences of my blog, Lost Weekends was born -crowd sourced social, powered road trips that will explore old roads in new ways, meeting crazy characters and in the words of Kcerouac ““Live, travel, adventure, bless, and don’t be sorry.”.
When I am not on the road, I work as a journalist, a copywriter and a marketing strategist with a strong background in social media, events and experiential. If you need some assistance in those fields from contracts, to consultation please contact me. I have also been a taxi driver, cocktail barman, DJ, lorry driver lead singer in a band, tour guide and a door to door salesman amongst less salubrious occupations. All I feel making me eminently qualified for the life on the road.
At any one stage of my life I have wanted to to be a writer, a filmmaker, and troubadour, I was looking for my canvas and I think I have finally found it on the road, any road will do.
Please check out my words and pictures and connect to tell me what you think.

Wherever I roam, my side kick Maurice Da’ Gmome rides shotgun.

My stylist couldn’t make the trip.
